  EATS (The Eating and Tasting Society) is a fun, diverse group of 36 ladies, divided into 3 groups.  Each group gets together every three months, to plan and prepare a lunch for all the members.  Luncheons are usually held at Lapham Community Center.  Recipes are emailed to members and discussed at the luncheon.  There are 9 luncheons each year on the second Thursday of each month (except December, July and August).

  This group was created for social bridge players of intermediate level to have fun practicing and improving their skills while enjoying the company of other ladies who are there to do the same thing. We are a fun-loving group and welcome players to be members of a set group or as substitutes. We play bridge on the second Wednesday of the month from September through May starting at 9:15 at the Lapham Community Center.

  The January meeting of the Encore Book Group will be held at 1:30, Monday, January 26, 2026, downstairs at Lapham.  We will be discussing "Cat's Eye by Margaret Atwood".

  Lunch (11:00 -12:30): Chinese New Year Celebration at L.C. Chen, Fairfield, CT (the BEST Chinese restaurant in the Fairfield county)

  Free Guided Art Tour (1:30–3:00 PM): Yale University Art Gallery, 1111 Chapel St, New Haven, CT

  Return: Approx. 4 PM back to Irwin Park

  Event Description:

  Celebrate Chinese New Year with Encore friends on a day filled with art, food, and camaraderie!

  We’ll start with a festive Chinese New Year lunch, followed by a guided tour of the Yale University Art Gallery, one of the country’s premier art museums. The collection spans centuries and cultures—from Van Gogh, Monet, and Picasso to ancient artifacts, decorative arts, and works from the Société Anonyme.

  Special Theme: In honor of Chinese New Year, we suggest wearing red—the color of joy, luck, and love. (Optional)

  Lunch Details 

  Enjoy a special prix fixe lunch ($20), which includes:

  • One appetizer: egg roll, spring roll, or soup
  • One main dish: chicken, beef, shrimp, noodle, or vegetarian
  • Rice: white, brown, or fried

  The group plays at an intermediate level. Beginner classes are available through the New Canaan Recreation Department, YMCA, and private instructors. 

  
  

  Prior to play, you must purchase a Pickleball Permit (seniors $80, adults $140, family $300) at the New Canaan Recreation Department. Permits are only available to New Canaan Residents. Encore members w/o a Permit can play for $15 each session, payable by credit card at the courts.
