We will have our next Critics Corner meeting on Friday, February 25th, on Zoom. Please email Jeannette Glazer or call 203 966-2063 if you would like to participate.
The following movies will be discussed and then rated:
BELFAST – (Available on Amazon and other streaming channels) A movie straight from Kenneth Branagh's own experience. A nine-year-old boy must chart a path towards adulthood through a world that has suddenly turned upside down. His stable and loving community and everything he thought he understood about life is changed forever but joy, laughter, music and the formative magic of the movies remain.
Lilies of the Field – (Available on Amazon and other streaming channels) When traveling African-American handyman Homer Smith (Sidney Poitier) stops by a farm in rural Arizona, he is welcomed by a group of Roman Catholic nuns who have emigrated from Germany. Realizing that the farm needs a lot of work, Homer takes on a number of repair projects for the women, who are led by the headstrong Mother Maria (Lilia Skala). Impressed by Homer's kindness and strong work ethic, the nuns come to believe that he has been sent by God to help build them a chapel.
If you enjoy going to the movies and love an opportunity to discuss the movie with other movie enthusiasts, then you should consider joining Critics’ Corner. We meet at a member’s house or Zoom. After socializing over appetizers and some drinks, we then discuss and rate the two movies, which we will have already seen on our own. Each attendee brings either an appetizer or dessert and contributes $5 when they arrive to cover the cost of the drinks.
