The June meeting of the Encore Book Group will be held at 1:30, Monday, June 24th, downstairs at Lapham. We will be discussing The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store by James McBride.
The Heaven & Earth Grocery Store is a historical fiction novel. It tells the story of Black and Jewish residents of the Chicken Hill neighborhood of Pottstown, Pennsylvania in the 1920s and 1930s. The novel is about a group of characters who cross lines of color and class to save a 12-year-old Black boy named Dodo who has been institutionalized by the state. The story shows how love and community can sustain us, even in dark times.
There is always a lively discussion so please REGISTER to let us know you plan to attend.
