Encore Book Group
The March 2025 meeting of the Encore Book Group will be held at 1:30 PM, Monday, March 31st, downstairs at Lapham.
This month, we’ll be discussing "Almost Sisters by Joshilyn Jackson", women's literary fiction. The story follows graphic novelist Leia Birch Briggs as she unexpectedly finds herself pregnant after a one-night encounter with a mysterious man dressed as Batman. As Leia, a 38-year-old Southern woman, grapples with the news of her impending single motherhood, including the fact that her baby will be biracial, her world is further upended by her step-sister Rachel's crumbling marriage and her grandmother Birchie's struggle with dementia. With humor, empathy, and deep insight, the novel explores themes of family, privilege, and the difference between perception and reality, as Leia faces difficult truths about her origins and identity.
There is always a lively discussion!
